Slither

there is a snake in the grass

curled calm in scaled flair

trespass not for torpor taints

this sallow serpent’s lair

peerless peccadillo

her fangs are burnished;

bare

.

convoluting coils of stillness

a flick of forked tongue

tread lightly heedless pilgrim

lest her venom freely run

retreat to shadowed sanctum

for she seeketh

only sun..

Splintered

with spindles bosky and silhouette

we perforate the sky, such brittle regret

yet once we stood crookedly proud

resplendent with leaf

so elegantly bowed

.

do you recall when our roots first touched?

you shivered

sending squirrel from covert lair

wooden glances; your arborous armour

barked “beware”

yet I advanced with patient seasons at my side

supporting nest of solitary wren

a foliage crested bride

Buzz Words

i happen upon a bedroom for bees

a velvet petalled boudoir

‘neath omniscient trees

canopies aquiver in a

lavender scented breeze

.

Bombus impatiens

rests with striped acquaintance

to sip at dappled dew

spiracles gasping

pollened feet askew

.

so quaint this gleeful garden scene

to lull a child

as if in dream

so rest your barb, your lancet sting

poised pollinator…

only honey bring!

Shelter

it is the underside of leaves

where true tenderness lies

untouched by relentless sun

huddle in canopy disguise

.

with an affinity for the strength of stem

an organic parasol shade

veined chlorophyll lattice

tangled in web palisade

.

it is here where you will find me

frail skin caressed by caterpillar

and although i no longer see the sky

droplet reflections comfort the eye

the value of a fallen tear

glistens, revealing the blue

on shimmered surface tension

of diffident dew

Tsunami

when the ocean came in

with its bellows, with its groans

with its almighty exclamations of foam

with spits and swirls

and torrid Medusa curls

of seaweed, filling your mouth

even Poseidon released his trident

aghast

lulled by siren hymn: iconoclast

and seahorses scattered

in equine nautical dance

a cataclysm of coral kingdoms

truculent to turbid tidal trance

..

we didn’t see it coming

that devastating wave of destiny

it arrived when we were distracted

by sky, by sand

that moment you reached for my hand

..

so surrender we must

for the ocean we did trust …

Tangled

leaf tips arch to the sun

as I to you

exuding breath

for you, my oxygen

as subtle photosynthesis

begins

..

oft times I wilt some

for I carry the heat you bear

your high noon doth sear

I cling, in deep rooted resolve

undulating millipedes absolve

fertile beads dissolve

nourishing

engorging phloems

seeking free

..

I am all spring for you

all colour to counter the greys

of your simmering, clouded gaze

in hope that we

might raise

tangled …
