The Jester

the tendrils of time sink into the flesh of our everyday

my eyes dim, your saturnine words no longer hold sway

in the royal court of my favour

instead I choose the frolic of the jester

his humour shrouds wounds that now fester

hermetically sealed is the laughter

carefree minstrel of mirth

i no longer know my worth

my ego dizzied from juggling

who then

is the fool facing the fool?

with wave of hand, a rustle of bell

this reign of fulsome affection

has damned us to hell

The Prisoner

If this is the last sky I see

tell the clouds to taunt me not

and bring you here to me
If only as an apparition rare

cascading locks, sweet fragrant hair

our fingertips shall meet mid air

a final twirl

some whispered prayer

a serenade of stale despair
I’m roused from this tragic play

a key fumbles in the lock

you fade away
These prison bars will only hold

my remnant dreams or memory bold

for when the noose is snapping

my soul shall soar

with ne’er a thought

Of betrayal

Sometimes in sleep

Twisting in restless heat, I unfurl

The stitches separate and detritus foams

Metal filaments from the knife glistening in the dawn light

Mixed in warm crimson damp

I am only part healed

your rusted blade still sharp

This cruel sport of blood letting

my fingerprints with yours as we grasped the weapon
