The Cage

oh elusive bird

oft in need of clandestine capture

i free you from my skeletal cage

with cacophonous cartilaginous crack

a delicate, metal hinged rapture

..

you stumble, stunned

to adamantine floor

feeble sparrow lungs shrill with musty air

limp, tremoring under yonder rocking chair

rest awhile

i will not disturb you there

..

sometime later, as i sleep

a stranger knocks from realm afar

steps in, leaving the door ajar

and from my slumber

to fitfull wake

sweet bird has flown

feather alone

my keepsake

Make a wish

the swaying dandelions tall

invite gentle exhalations

letting scattered wishes fall

upon which field shall they rest?

how far from pursed lips,

and a longing heart’s request?

will the seeds find fertile ground

or alight upon a stagnant pond

to miasmal algae green be bound

maybe today, from trembling hand

and with God’s omniscient breath

a seed

shall find roots

upon scorched land

a wish granted

For D, who brought up the topic of childhood dandelion wishes 🙂
