A Gentle Crime

i was accused of poetry and other lyrical misdemeanours

i blame your eyes

and the lure of their dark expanse

on lazy mornings

.

i was threatened with literary libel

and for that

your lips enticing

even when words of rage flowed

in scorched, syllabic streams

.

of course I had weighed the risk

corporal punishment for corporeal adulation

fifty flesh biting lashes

for pondering lubricious lashes

as you slept

.

and when finally the judge rose to voice verdict

from his bench of jaded experience

grasping gavel, yet not my attention

he absolved me of all crime

for love was the culprit

and I,

an ardent accomplice ….

    1. Aquib, what wonderful comments! The roller coaster phrase was epic and brought out the biggest smile ….. the sun had to put on sunglasses from the reflection off my teeth. Thankful for you …..Happy New Year indeed!

  1. This is so signature Diana that it completely made up for the long hiatus!
From the beginning, the tone was set, crime juxtaposed with love, as images and metaphors made their way in like criminals in the night, leaving behind masterpieces of phrases for the reader to trace them. A work of art, with depth of meaning and a soulfulness that runs through the piece – once again, The Wandering Armadillo moves us all. ❀❀

    1. Always and forever, your unwavering support and love is so appreciated. So fresh even when I’m sure my writing is staid and predictable. You elevate it and me with your kindness dear Ishu!
Happy First Anniversary – what an amazing 2018 of writing, long conversations and longer laughs. You are a diamond! ❀

    1. Amazing how some writing just comes out in an instant! I was reminded that quirkiness is my most beloved character trait. Next to falling in love so madly it can only be a criminal act as it defies any rules of conduct haha! Hope your world is blessed this year dear one ❀

  2. clever use of the word ‘lash’ and bringing out something so beautiful out of it… This ❀

    "fifty flesh biting lashes

    for pondering lubricious lashes

    as you slept"

This poem made me smile with a rich imagination running back in my head. I see mischievous D, engaged in her own muse of preaching love and admiration as the object of your affection is engaged in passionate rage , a by product of love and its doings…

I loved this poem.. and the closure is wonderful… it is funny, thoughtful and full of innocence one is bound to have in love..

    BRAVO! Welcome back!

    1. Thank you so much! The abundance of praise here makes me heady indeed. I have a great affection for word play when I compose, double entendres or the multiple meanings words can have. As I told you, my thesaurus is my favourite book – thought not needed here.
So happy for your enduring support even after a few months awol lol! ❀

  3. “lyrical misdemeanours” – sometimes we are condemned for our passions, as if that very passion obstructs someone else’s flow. I had a spouse once tell me: “don’t do that thing you do” referring to my conscious breathing practices, because he felt it gave me an unfair advantage and he wanted an all out fight. Lol. Your poem reminded me of this.

      1. It was epic, exhausting, and I was rarely out of my comfort zone in a foreign land because of my glorious contacts in India. WP contacts …. :), and friendships forged for life! I could write a book about the spellbinding moments, but something tells me ….that was just chapter one xo

      1. It’s difficult not to write something in praise when one reads such beautiful poetry you come up with. Even if the praise gets repetitive
