O purveyor of fine linens
i come to you unclothed
only scraps of tainted textiles
saved from a betrothed
weigh my limbs
..
terse tailor
tally my tenacious lovers
some, are tattered threads
clinging close as static shreds
ever taunting
..
haughty haberdasher
stitch me a coat
that does not needle my frayed flesh
a vestment of finest muga silk
that does not snag the sinuous seams
of oft surrendered,
stifled dreams
..
made to measure
such wardrobe to treasure
dress me with love
Profound. So unlike you π
Love the warping and wefting of your work. So clever!

I see the couturier as the architect of our destiny. Sewing the seams, draping our bodies, clothing us in beauty or darkness and finally, cutting our thread when it’s time
You…are a TALENT.

Oh, My mum would’ve loved your glorious poem, and that’s the highest compliment you can ever get, she was a keen home seamstress. and an ardent reader.

Why Ivor, what a glorious thing to say. π The whole piece came from a thought of a seamstress/haberdasher huddled over their work by lamplight. Of course, my metaphorical tendencies then took hold lol.

Always my pleasure βΊοΈ, and yes mum would often be up late at night sewing clothes for us kids, you could hear the sounds of the the sewing machine whirring, while you slept,

What a lovely memory to share Ivor. I wonder if she had one of those beautiful Singer sewing machines with the antique table?

Wow, I can picture it! Black with gold perhaps. Built with precision and certainly what my Couturier would be using by gas lamp π

Love those olden day stories, with their daring sense of adventure. Oh…. Mum used to tell me the story about when dad was courting her. Mum was a trainee nurse, and living in a boarding nursing hostel, with its security high red brick fence all the way around. And they would get home late, after the curfew hour, from their evenings outing, and mum would have to stand on dads shoulders to jump the fence, and she would always giggle when she told her gorgeous tale.

Oh my, what a fabulous tale of young love!
When my parents came to Australia on a migrant ship, they were honeymooners…. yet still segregated into male/female quarters. My dad would ensure his roommates would all leave to go for an early dinner sitting so he could smuggle mum into his cabin π
