The Cage

oh elusive bird

oft in need of clandestine capture

i free you from my skeletal cage

with cacophonous cartilaginous crack

a delicate, metal hinged rapture

you stumble, stunned

to adamantine floor

feeble sparrow lungs shrill with musty air

limp, tremoring under yonder rocking chair

rest awhile

i will not disturb you there

sometime later, as i sleep

a stranger knocks from realm afar

steps in, leaving the door ajar

and from my slumber

to fitfull wake

sweet bird has flown

feather alone

my keepsake

    1. Yes dear heart, I would indeed gather such feather and sleep with it under my pillow.
I cherish your words … and I hope that these find you in high and hopeful spirits πŸ’•πŸ˜Œ

    1. Cheers to you kind Isha! It’s an odd thing that you say you picturized it, because as I was writing it … at one stage I was thinking how one of your doodles would look marvellous with it 🌹❀️

      1. Well you are most persuasive sweet Isha, so I shall respectfully agree. (I’ll have to try another clandestine method to extract a collaborative doodle from you haha πŸ˜‰). I am not beyond blatant bribery! πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜˜πŸ’ŸπŸ’Ÿ

      2. Your last doodle of the ferryman was anything but crude. They are always so original. We poets are many sweet lady, but you doodler/wordsmiths are few and must be courted πŸ˜‰πŸŒΉπŸŒΉ

    1. Such a generous and kind heart you are, dear Anand πŸ’• Your words always created with thought and attention.
I’m pleased you like my pictures … I do offer originals as a rule, with only the rare one not (will always credit the source). This pic was a snap taken in Cuba in February 2016. A very colourful country of crumbling architecture.

  2. This one took my breathe. It’s heartfelt. It’s intensity just kept me mouth gaped. You are truly an enchantress words D and whenever I visit your realm I often find myself. How beautifully you portrayed this body as a cage and this soul as a bird. Still something is left of it in our hearts our keepsake.
    Hugs. Love ❀️
