A question of Fire

ωhat is this slow burn?

is it an ember that glows orange

in a cooling hearth?

a gentle breath to flicker

a burst to flame

yet shall it be grey ash

when time soon doth claim?

can tωo be ωarmed

by the burn of one?

shall fire reign,

or yet succumb

to ice

all quenching?

this poet asks you

      1. Orrr thank you, I tried so hard to rein in the vernacular, sometimes plain speech conveys the message much more effectively . From reading your prose & comments I get the impression you’ve come across a fair few partners who don’t know their arse from their elbow when it comes to spotting a woman whose a ‘catch’ ! ‘Regrets they’ll have a lot’ as the song kinda goes.

      2. Oh Nigel, you are a perceptive one … nothing gets past you! And a dear compliment as well.
Yes I’ve had the standard misplaced emotions, errant longings etc and a few fabulous relationships that just didn’t stand the test of time. A fabulous journey that’s ongoing 😊

    1. How wonderful of you to go back and read these pieces … I’m especially fond of this write! And now you have sprinkled some Rumi here, a sugary timeless icing …couldn’t be sweeter!
